hymn was written by Sarah Flower Adams and composed by her sister Eliza in 1841 - retelling the story of Jacob's dream in Genesis 28,11-12, where the angels of God are ascending and descending on
a ladder between heaven and earth. Also the hymn is the alleged last song the band on RMS Titanic played before the ship sank.
